10 x 04 - Coup de Grace

Postby beaujolais on Fri Oct 16, 2009 5:31 am

To keep this board from becoming a complete dead zone I thought I'd post something about this episode. Don't everyone comment at once.

I was kind of excited to see this episode because the story sounded a lot like "A Bullet Runs Through It" and I was hoping for some sort of acknowledgment to Jim shooting a cop. As it turns out, well, I'll get to that. I posted my longer comments over on my LJ. Here are the parts I liked:

Best scene: Jim comes busting out of his office, totally dissing Ecklie so calls out to Jim. Jim is oozing pissed-offness. Jim probably would have kicked puppies at this point. We find out that Jim has found out that Finn knew the DG (dead guy) and that they worked together for four months. Finn also has complaints lodged against him from DG. DG says Finn is a racist. Up until this person, Jim felt bad for Finn. Probably understood what the guy was going through. Jim now thinks Finn is an ass. Btw. Finn's union rep lawyer guy often appears as doofy man in commercials. Kind of kills his credibility.

Jim is a stud in his shades. And I love all the posturing he does when he walks up to the scene with Finn and his rep. Finn kind of loses it while they are reenacting the shooting and goes off on the lookie-loo's. Nick says Finn is a little prickly (this is the nice way to call someone a prick on network TV). Jim tells Nick to cut Finn some slack, he's under a lot of pressure. Jim knows that kind of pressure and Nick knows this too. Nick doesn't argue with Jim.

And for the holy crap! moment of the episode and the last four seasons: Someone finally remembered that Brass shot a cop! Jim says he knows the depression but I really wish he would have answered Finn when Finn asks him if he cried on some couch to the shrink.

Not sure what I think about this new detective. I like him better than Vartann and Cavaliere but I do wonder if maybe they are bringing him slowly so he can take over for PG should he leave after this season.

Okay, I'll try to fight everyone off, so I can get a post up on the forum. :D

I'm not sure how much I liked this show. Don't take me wrong, it was good, but I really don't feel any of this season has really grabbed me yet. At least, this episode had more of Brass, however, doesn't it seem like he hasn't had any really good lines, yet? Brass always has a good zinger, something that makes me laugh out loud and I just haven't seen that yet this year.

I agree with your points about his studliness. There were some great moments for that and yes, I do like him in his sunglasses. I was disappointed in Brass' comments to the other cop when he was telling him that he was still on leave. That just didn't seem like Brass. To say, "Hey look on the bright side, you're still getting paid." You know Brass didn't feel like that when he shot Officer Bell, so why have him say that? It just didn't fit. Then the guy goes and leaves Brass' office and commits suicide. Now, Jim has to really be feeling some guilt. More depression to add on Brass, that we won't see.

So, I liked the show, but I'm still waiting for something better and more exciting.

beaujolais I apologize for not commenting as much on here as I used to. School is my life right now.

But last night I was glued to CSI for the first time this season. I was hoping it would kind of be along the lines of ABRTI and maybe, just maybe, 4 seasons later, they would mention Jim shooting another cop...and they did. I mean, holy shit. I almost forgot he shot and killed a cop myself. I think Jim might have forgotten about it himself. /sarcasm Better late than never, I guess.

I'll admit that was my favorite part of the show. I kind of knew it was coming when they showed just Jim and Finn in his office and the blinds were drawn. When Finn mentioned about Jim shooting another cop, I knew that there wouldn't be too much of a reaction from Jim, but just the fact that they finally brought it up was enough for me.

My second favorite part was when they found the dead cop and Ray informed Jim that it was a cop. I absolutely love Jim's reaction. You can tell he truly cares when they lose one of their own, even when he doesn't personally know them.

Oh, and when he stormed past Ecklie, I knew some shit had hit the fan. I like pissed-off Jim too.

Overall a very good episode. I love any episode that let's Jim show some type of emotion, and he did last night.

I liked Enrique Murciano (new detective) on Without A Trace. I think he'll fit in on this show, if they decide to keep him on full-time. I don't like that fact that he may be Jim's replacement though. I still don't like to think about PG leaving the show. I may not watch it anymore after he does.

Heh, I was going to say something about not crashing the board

At least, this episode had more of Brass, however, doesn't it seem like he hasn't had any really good lines, yet?

He hasn't but then he really hasn't had anything to do until these last two episodes.

I left this off my comments here (didn't want to point out everything) but I mentioned it on my LJ. I also thought that was a really stupid thing for him to say. This episode was written by David Rambo and I'm becoming convinced that he hasn't a clue how to write Brass. But you'd think PG might say "hey, I don't think my guy would say that". Then again, maybe he did and got vetoed. Or maybe he doesn't care any more.

beaujolais I apologize for not commenting as much on here as I used to. School is my life right now.

Hey, no problem. There are probably a half dozen or so of us who generally post something and everyone else lurks. This board really isn't active enough to support lurkers only.

And I have to agree on all your points, including the shout out to ABRTI being the best part and his reaction when he found out dead guy was a cop. But pissed off Jim was just...whoa! I really loved the scene in last season's Disarmed and Dangerous when he went off on the pretend FBI agent. I want to see Jim do what the new detective did to the guy who killed the kid (the part about the finger was very ewww, btw). I would give big $$ to see Jim actually punch someone.

I agree on wanting to see Jim punch someone. Add that to the long list of things I would like to see him do/say on the show. We'll never see it. He just keeps his cool too well. It would almost seem out of character for him, but I'm sure there is something that would push him over the edge to send someone into next week.

I forgot to mention in my original post about Jim finding the blood trail and not Nick last night. Makes up for Nick just up and leaving Jim in For Warrick last season and Jim somehow "not seeing" the blood trail.

As for the episode being written by DR, he really only caters to GSR fans anyways.

Has there been mention that PG might not be back next year or is that just speculation. I don't know if I would watch anymore if he leaves. It would be nice if just once in awhile, JIm could rough up someone. Hodges would do.

I read your comment today about the new guy possibly replacing PG and it really put my in a foul mind all day! Unfortunately I haven't been unable to watch the new series yet so I can't comment yet.

Is there a chance that this is PG last series? Have you heard something? I really don't think I will be watching anymore if PG were to leave - the show will have definitely lose its appeal to me

The only thing I've heard is that MH, PG and ES re-upped through S10. Not sure about GE--he might have signed on for more, like RDH. I know PG said at one time that he wanted to go into double digit seasons (right, CSI_LV_AF) and he's reached that this season. He'll be 61 when this season is over and he'll have been doing the bicoastal commute for 10 years now. That's got to get really, really old. I can see him deciding to leave, especially if Marg goes and he keeps getting scripts that don't challenge him. And after all the heat tptb took over the way they brought in Sofia and then Riley, I can see them easing a new guy into the fold. But IMO, they need someone with a lot more personality to follow up Brass. The new detective really wasn't all that memorable but he wasn't nearly as dull as Vartann or even Vega.

And I agree with everyone else. PG leaves and I'm done with CSI.

I agree with everyones' comments on this one. I loved seeing more Brass and loved the little discussion in his office but did think his response to the other cop was a little off. He was looking very hot in the sunglasses and suit. They finally figured out how to fit him properly. Had a hard time concentrating as my mind was working on getting him out of that jacket, lol.

As for his leaving, if he goes, I go too. I'm enjoying this season more than the end of last, but without PG, it's a no show for me.

Simple -- have someone threaten Catherine. Then we would see the fists aflyin'.

I so hope they do something with Brass and Catherine this season. Him stepping between her and danger seems a natural, but how about how she reacts? If only the PTB would listen to us, argh!

They keep inserting those little moments -- Catherine talking to someone on the phone and assuring them that "their cases come first," the little glances they keep giving each other, yadda yadda. I suspect TPTB are saving it up for either a dip in the ratings or sweeps week.

And granted, I would lose all interest in this show if PG left, but if S10 ended with some sort of crisis that resulted in Brass and Catherine outing themselves and riding off into the sunset together (so to speak), I could live with that.
